Travel recommendations for rail travellers and public transport
ICE, IC, EC, regional trains and S-Bahn trains travel to Bochum main station at high frequency. From here, you can easily reach Ruhr-Universität by underground line U35, which has its own stop named after it. The U35 (direction Bochum Hustadt) runs every 5 minutes on weekdays and takes just under 10 minutes to the university.
Travel recommendations for motorists
Drivers can easily reach the Ruhr-Universität via the dense motorway network in Germany and especially in North Rhine-Westphalia. The quickest route is via the Bochum/Witten motorway junction, where the A43 and A44 meet. Simply take the Bochum-Querenburg exit and follow the signs for ‘Ruhr-Universität’ and the (electronic) signs there.
Travel recommendations for long-distance and air travellers
Dortmund, Münster/Osnabrück, Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf are four airports within easy reach of the Ruhr-Universität. However, Düsseldorf Airport is not only the largest of these, but also the easiest to reach: there are direct connections between the airport and Bochum Central Station up to eight times an hour, and the journey takes just over half an hour.
